After a year of highs and lows, Gen Z TikTok magnet and brash indie favourite beabadoobee is back with a new single. 'Care' finds the Londoner (real name Beatrice Laus) testing her vocal comfort zone. Despite scoring a viral hit with February’s Glue Song, touring as support for Taylor Swift on her Eraser Tour and joining label-mate Matty Healy on his Immunity Tour, Laus hasn’t quite broken through to the mainstream yet.

A denser and more considered record than her previous output, Beatopia oozes non-conformity and flits from one style to the next with a playful spirit. Lead single Talk maintains the intimacy of Laus’ diary entries, but closing track You’re here, that’s the thing suggests she’s ready to delve into genres that previously seemed beyond her scope. A well-executed vocal performance and a sense of confidence in her sound take this album to sonic heights never before reached by beabadoobee.
