While Rishikesh is a relatively small town, it's also a great base for exploring the rest of northern India. From Rishikesh, you can easily visit Delhi, Agra, and the Taj Mahal. You can also take a trip to the holy city of Varanasi, where you can participate in Ganga Aarti (a ritual performed on the banks of the Ganges River). And if you're feeling really adventurous, you can even take a trip to the Himalayas, where you can trek to Everest Base Camp or visit the Dalai Lama's home in Dharamsala.
