It didn't take much time for even more speculation about a WoW release on Xbox to make the rounds when Microsoft made public its plan to purchase Publisher Activision Blizzard.
Prior to Patch 9.0.1 at the end of 2020 World of Warcraft players interested in the possibility of controller support had no choice but to take advantage of other programs. The pre-patch of WotLK Classic changed the game, then the game was able to be played in the fantastical world with the use of a PlayStation or Xbox gamepad in hand. While some believed that this was the first step towards an eventual console version WoW, Blizzard Entertainment never even teased such an endeavor. Of course, talk of a hopeful World of Warcraft Xbox port came to the forefront time in the wake of Microsoft's imminent Activision Blizzard purchase. Fans should not be holding their breath, though.

The game's creators quickly dismissed the idea with the following statement: "Nah, I think World of Warcraft is a game that was designed from the ground from the ground up for gamers on the PC."
