The purpose of yoga teacher training is to prepare students to become certified yoga teachers through a thorough curriculum that covers both the theory and practice of yoga. The Yoga Alliance, an international organization that establishes standards for yoga teacher training, is registered with the majority of yoga teacher training programs. While some programs may be shorter or longer, the majority are 200-hour courses that take two to six months to finish. Students will learn how to teach and sequence asana (physical postures), pranayama (breathing techniques), meditation, and other yoga practices during their yoga teacher training. They will also learn about the philosophy and history of yoga.
