How to Fix the Google Chats Message Delivery Problem

I encountered the following problem yesterday when attempting to react to a reply in a group SMS message through Google Chats: "Message failed to send."

A retry button was present, but it did not successfully deliver the message.

I looked into this problem on Google.

Google gave me the greatest results it could find in its huge database, but nobody had found a solution.

I was able to resolve this problem after conducting independent troubleshooting procedures, interacting with my wireless provider, and contacting Google Support.

Follow these steps to fix the "message failed to send" error:

Modify the default SMS client. In Chats, press the menu button, select Settings, and then select SMS. By tapping the SMS enabled button, you can choose another SMS app.

Chats must be closed. Select your Google account in Settings, then press Sign out.

Clear the Chats cache and data. Clear the cashe by going to the Settings app, tapping Apps, Chats, and Storage. Clear data after it has been cleared.

Re-sign in to Chats. Choose your Google account when you launch Chats.

Make Chats the default SMS service. To change the default SMS app in Chats, go to the menu, select Settings, SMS, and then Chats.

As your SMS account, choose your Google account. Select SMS account from the SMS options, then press your Google account.

Send your message again after rewriting it.
